Meet The Face Behind Archimedes Mortgage LTD
I’m Jay Meakin, the proud owner of Archimedes Mortgage LTD.
I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better. This is not the whole story…because that would be a book! This is merely a Coles notes summary. I’ve been blessed with many opportunities and fortunately have had the courage and support of my family to pursue these opportunities.
About eleven years ago, I met a mortgage broker who was very impressed with my problem-solving abilities and suggested that I pursue a career in the mortgage field if I was interested in something new and challenging.
After debating the possibility of changing my career, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue the profession of a mortgage specialist. I’ve been a mortgage broker for several years now, and I’m really enjoying my decision as my job offers me new challenges every day and allows me to help people build wealth through real estate.
Compared to when I joined the mortgage business, I believe the industry has grown more complicated today. The rules and regulations have and continue to be more restrictive in the insured space, and many borrowers are faced with mortgage refusals, as they do not meet the stringent requirements. Fortunately, with my knowledge of the mortgage rules and market, I can help these individuals work their way around their mortgage challenges and secure the finances they need to obtain their dreams.
One of the best parts about being a mortgage broker is that I get to meet new people regularly and learn their stories while working with them. I also get to solve their financial problems and give them hope.
Recently, I helped a couple to finance their home during the COVID-19 crisis. One of them was laid off from their job due to the pandemic, but then got rehired. The sudden decline in their income caused them to struggle with their debt and to obtain a mortgage. After assessing their finances and debt situation, I helped them refinance their automobiles to lower debt servicing ratios. This saved them $350 per month in car payments and helped raise their mortgage affordability.
Assessing and solving problems like these has been the most significant attribute to my success over the years. At the same time, my character and resilience to the changing industry have also uplifted my career. Being able to adapt is critical for success in the mortgage industry. Similarly, being honest, loyal, and delivering a high level of service are equally important.
When I’m not at work, I love riding bikes, both mountain bikes and motorbikes. Last fall, I traveled to Italy for five days of on-road bike riding! The whole trip was absolute bliss, and I can not wait to do it all over again.
Besides bikes, I also have an intense passion for cars. I love rebuilding cars during my free time. I recently managed to save two great classic automobiles from the crusher and have two more project vehicles waiting for me to get started on. A complimentary pursuit to rebuilding cars is welding metal. I have a mig welder and some friends (and YouTube) who are coaching me. This skill will help me with my restoration hobby.
I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
If you or someone you know could benefit from my expertise as a mortgage broker in Calgary, AB, I invite you to get in touch. Please visit our website at www.archimedesmortgageltd.ca.
